This loss is bad for SF, Fedor was suppose to smash Bigfoot and than either rematch the guy who just beat him or fight Overreem. Now he's out and I know SF wanted him or Alistair or Werdum to win it. Well 1 of the 2 remaining will also be out come the next round. What the fuck will they do is Barnett wins? he can't even reliably pass a piss test, shit he's the reason Affliction had to fold. If Overreem or Werdum don't win this, SF will be fucked because their 3 supposed top fighters all lost. The finals could end up being Silva Vs Rodgers, while I'd like to see that, the average SF fan won't. I think I'll pull for Rogers now just because I know SF pulled a Silva on him, putting him in a fight they're sure he'd lose.
I personally from a standpoint of business think this HW tournament format is stupid. Allistar and Fedor should of been a huge money making fight, now it probably wont ever happen. I wont lose any sleep over it, but SF, I dunno about this decision.
Yeah that could be it. I thought it was interesting in interviews leading up to this fight where they asked Fedor if he changed anything, especially since the Werdum fight. He basically trained the same way. It worked for him for so long but like you said the sport has evolved so I wonder if he had opened up to new trainers and camps if he would have done better. Just about all the great MMA fighters these days do that, and I kind of wish Fedor did.Fedor losing two in a row is the last of the old guard of MMA dying out IMO. The days of training in the woods with kettle bells and a pull-up bar, and cutting no weight, and winning by sheer force of will are over. Fedor is the man. But the sport is evolving and he's not keeping up.
I'm not sure I'd say it's the end. I think a drop to 205lbs and working with a guy like Greg Jackson would have Fedor back to elite status in no time. Having a little extra weight was okay when he was 27. At 33 and the way the sport has evolved he needs to be in top physical condition. Fedor is an elite athlete and with the proper training I think he could be in the top 3 LHW and maybe the top guy in a year or two.
Not going to happen. Cutting properly is something that you have to acclimate your body to, and 34 is damned old to start. First he has to do a body recomp, then he has to learn to make weight (something he has never had to worry about) Then, he has to be able to rehydrate in less than a day without being weak/wrecked from doing it. Otherwise he will be close to a true 205 the day of the fight, and facing guys that are bigger and stronger, yet again.I'm not sure I'd say it's the end. I think a drop to 205lbs and working with a guy like Greg Jackson would have Fedor back to elite status in no time. Having a little extra weight was okay when he was 27. Fedor went to the wrong promotion and the wrong weight class.
What did you guys expect? Fedor has been fighting in the minor leagues for years now. I'm sorry man but have you watched any UFC lately? Guys are absolutely shredded and 10-15 pounds over their weigh in weight by fight night. I agree the sport has passed him up. Just like watching the Royce Gracie come back and fight Hughes. You see some little scrawny fucker with a gee on. Hughes nearly ripped the guys arm off. Fedor let his friends run him into the ground. Did he really think he could go over five years without any legit competition and just jump right back in?
bahahaha - poor Fedor. Drop him out of the top 10
I just watched the fight and was completely shocked to see Fedor jump right into Silva's guard, two or three times! I could not believe that he would set himself up again especially against another Bjj guy with nine foot long legs.
That's Fedor man, that's his whole fighting style and that's why I love him.. dude is the drastical complete opposite of a Greg jackson fighter; he's been fighting this way his ENTIRE career and he's become the GOAT.
There is literally no one that can replicate what he did in his 10 year run; I don't think anyone in the next 100 years of MMA will do it.
I have been a fedor fan for several years now. It was unfortunate to see him lose twice in a row. Lets be honest though, MMA is continually evolving getting more and more technical, more and more cutting weight to make weight class. He is clearly 20-30 pounds overweight, not counting the ability to take some heavy diuretic on top of that. Fedor could easily fight in 205 by dropping a mere 10 pounds + diuretics. Heck, I am a light (relatively speaking) guy and I can drop 8-10 pounds just by depleting glycogen stores. How much more a guy who is 50 pounds heavier than myself?
That is just being realistic. However, here are the facts:
1) Fedor is overweight
2) Fedor is getting older
3) Fedor is no longer a top 10
