Strikeforce women’s champion Santos suspended for steroids

Thank you for not linking a picture of Cyborg. *shudder*

As for Carano, I don't see why she'd bother. There's limited demand and competition for female MMA and with her jump into Hollywood thanks to Soderberg, she's able to make at least (I'm guessing) 10x more per film than a fight...and that's just starting off!

I can understand that "fighters want to fight" and "be the best" but I imagine she has a lot more opportunities in Hollywood as long as she doesn't get her face punched in or leg broken.

not really a surprise actually.

Right, but she should be permanently banned not suspended. Look like the usage of steroids is becoming the norm for some to be competitive. There is no place in any sport for cheaters like them.

Heh, no one is surprised. That's what steroids do to the body's looks. If you've seen pictures of the 1980s East German women's swim team and some of the other countries, they all look like that from the massive steroid use during that era and as a bonus could all sing bass.

Carano's never coming back to MMA. She makes way more per film than she ever will in MMA, especially women's MMA, which has almost no following compared to Hollywood. It also lessens the numbers of times getting punches to the face and killing her looks.

Bulgarian shotput team as well. But those Holgas of East Germany were scary

WHAT?! I thought steroid use was rare in MMA! This is shocking! Judging by her physique, no way would I accuse her of doing steroids. It looks like she works out REALLY hard.

🙄

Before they caught her she was getting ready to put on 60lbs of muscle eating horse meat. She was then going to fight Overeem at a catch weight.

Some of the drugs dont get detected until they silently upgrade the methods to detect new ones. Wasn't it Marion Jones who with her hubby tested such drugs and used for performance gain?

Other thing I was always curious about is Golf. Do they test golf players as well?

UFC management has to be happy about this. She was unwanted baggage that came with the promotion purchase. By the time the suspension is over, they will probably be clear of any contractual obligations regarding her.

Besides, few want to see her fight, because she looks like a man, and easily dominates her opponents. Girls like Meisha can sell a lot more tickets.

Of course, the UFC may still drop women's MMA all together.

Pretty sure women's MMA in Strikeforce is done. Dana White and others never really wanted it to exist in the first place from what I infer from their various statements about women's MMA.

Yeah, I think Dana even said something about scrapping that entire weight class now since it was pretty much limited to finding opponents for her.

It's funny because I told a co-worker who lightly follows mma that cyborg wasnt fighting for a year and the first thing he said was "why? steroids?". So yeah, I don't think a single person is surprised by that one.

I think they pretty much all use, its just a matter if they get caught or not
It seems likely to me as well. At least some kit for recovery purposes. The number of hours and days straight of training some of them do is amazing. Cyborg is one of the most hardcore about training too. She always talks about how training is so hard, that the fight is the easy part. Makes sense she be using to augment strength and recovery.

If anyone was, they need to introspect on why they are so trusting. A little cynicism is healthy in this society. I would not show my surprise face if Overeem "paul harris" or dozens of others, turn up positive either.
