Why the hell are you guys talking about this as some sort of isolated incident? There have been other atrocities in Iraq as well, either by the military or blackwater

Shit happens, especially in a war zone.

most pathetic response to a horrific thread like this ever

your "shit happens" comment should require you to watch a video of that soldier talk about what they did for 48hours straight with no sleep

Save your song and dance act for the little kids. Shit happens and it happens everyday, even right here in River City. My "pathetic response" is true. I never said I condoned such behavior, I'm just pointing out that crap like this is going to happen no matter what, and even more so in a war zone.

You could, of course, avoid creating war zones in the first place... once you've created one the things that happens there do become your responsibility.

And then you can buy every child in the world a puppy, and cure world hunger, and ride off onto your mystical unicorn into a rainbow of peace.

yes, i'm sure he's the only one who committed any heinous crime in Iraq.

Well we know you probably think all soilders are shit and they all kill rape and pillage.
But the statistics of known murder and rape is WAAAYYY lower than the average there or here.
It's a horrible crime committed and I think everyone can agree to that, but you seem to hate on military personell and because a few do a bad thing you label them all bad.
If I remember correctly the military still has hanging and firing squad on the books.

Interesting you include 'curing world hunger' there, as if wanting to do that is somehow ridiculous. I guess you think all those brown people don't deserve to eat.

I was only responding to your point - yea shit happens, and it happens even more than ususal in a war, but since you (we, they, whatever) started that war in the first place that's no excuse at all.

We should take a chapter from Starship Troopers (the book), where the soldier is stripped of rank and insignia and hung and the outfit is in mourning for the tragedy and punished as a group (no leave etc).

Your delusional as usual. I didn't start the war anymore then you did.

Well obviously not, but our countries did, and therefore they/we have to take responsibility for the consequences... I don't see why this is confusing for you...

Ever quick to score a propaganda point, al-Qa'ida said the attack on the soldiers' convoy was to seek retribution for the rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl in the same area a year ago. "You should remember what you have done to our sister Abeer," said a statement by the Islamic State of Iraq group referring to five American soldiers who were charged in the rape and killing of Abeer Qassim al-Janabi and the deaths of her parents and her younger sister last year.

wonder when al-Qa'ida is going to exact retribution for all of the Iraqi civilians who die as a result from the god know how many suicide bombing that they are responsible for....who is going to remember them???? oh wait...

I don't give a fuck whether AQ is going to apologize for their own atrocities. They're savages, and they need to be put down.

What's disheartening is that this case allowed them to make an emotional appeal to the locals to excuse (and perhaps approve of) their savagery.

You know, the whole "hearts and minds" thing doesn't work so well when you hear about this case and think that you have to hide your daughters from your "liberators."

Look back up at Craig's and Chucky's replies. They sum it up pretty well.

This isolated incident, by the shocking nature of it alone, makes the good guys look like monsters. Don't pretend that you don't know what making sweeping generalizations feels like...

Well, the other half of this being a million times worse is the people over there are just so brainwashed/mind warped, they'll take an incident like this and apply it to "America" "The West" "etc" as the whole...it's the same thing as blaming Bush/US/West for <insert some high number here> of Muslim's/Iraqi's killed: We didnt' kill them, they themselves have killed each other, but can't live with that fact, so they blame us instead, it's easier than admitting it's them who are F'd up, not us.

On the idea's that are 'In this world impossible', we somehow need to devise a way to simply take all their children (to prevent/undue further brainwashing) and women (same, adding in abuse and oppression prevention), and just bring them over here. Just leave the already mind-F'd men over there to F over themselves, until such a time they can be trusted to act civilized (civilized as defined in year 2009 terms). Should only take like 70 years...just a bit longer than the Israel/Palestine cluster has been going on.

Sadly, it'll never happen....... :(

Chuck

Nothing wrong with applying it to "America" and "The West". It is America and the West who invade Iraq, for what reason? I still have no clue until this day. Not to justify those animal's behavior, but war is nasty. People go mental when they go into war and cannot handle the killing and the pressure of being killed any minutes. The best way to prevent this kind of $hit is to never get into war unless you have an iron clad legit reason.

Since Bush & Co does not have their reasons straight, I put this crime squarely on the soldiers as well as those right wing f'ckers who started the war. And the Muslim world have every right to blame America cause don't forget, the entire Senate supported the war and American elected Bush to the office. So ask yourself next time America go to war if it is absolutely necessary or is it just some protect the freedom crap as blood will be on your hand even if you are not directly firing the bullet.

Hmmmm.....No.

Funny. *I* wonder how the left would respond.

Funny. *I* wonder why the two even pretend to wonder when it's clear that each is so lost in partisanship that neither really bothers to think at all... just to react.

There is no excuse for what happened, not even close.

Yet, they rape and murder their own women all the time, in that part of the world.

How come a terrorist has more rights than a Military member? Obamma wants to bring all the people from gitmo to the US and give them a trial, so I think this soldier should at least have the same right. He may be guilty as hell, and he may be innocent. I dont really know. He should not get a harsher treatment than a murdering drug dealer in LA.
