stress test for system stability?

is there a program out there that will run my computer at very high load so I can see if it's stable?

Im talking about torture tests..I guess Ill try prime95, how long should I run it for? Overnight? This is a new system btw

3dmark2k3....

stresses all aspects of the PC, including video card. (which Sandra cannot AFAIK)

I also use SETI@home to stress, just without stressing the videocard 🙂

I swear by Prime95 torture test if just testing CPU and memory. It's also great to see if your power supply is up to snuff at full load as I've had PCs shut down Priming because of inferior PSUs. For video card overclocks, loop 3DMark. I usually run the torture test for 20+ hours before I'll declare an overclock stable, I've had tests crap out at over 10 hours.

Personally, I just use my PC. If the things I use all the time work, if the occasional game works it's stable. I personally see no need to "torture" my computer to see if it's stable. I'll know right away if it's not. Just my opinion. Also, you could test the CPU specifically with something like SETI@Home.

I ran Prime95 on my new box for 14 hours, 30 minutes before I decided it was fine and to give it a rest. Then I ran memtest86 for just about 30 mins to make sure.

When I build a new computer, I take a few days tweaking the setting and speeds I fire up Prime95 and run 3dmark at the same time, if it still running in the morning after a full night I consider it stable. I use Sandra to check my setting for the best performance

It isn't truly stable until at least 24 hours and really you need 48 consecutive hours of Prime95 torture before you can truly call a system stable. You can get away for less but then you'll never know if it's *truly* stable.

I run SETI and D2OL 24/7 so I guess that would count as a dailey stress test. And as said...3dmark is great also.
