STRESS Cause of X-mas.

So how many of you work within an I.T. field? I'm sure a lot of you do. My job title is:

I.T. Services Specialist.

Basically, im a computer tech.

I work with hardware and software just like a lot of you do. I work in a hospital, so there's done of applications we use and tons of hardware. I'm always busy and usually have a big que of work. Mixed within my normal job, I'm unfortunately a HELP DESK backup. Which means, i answers phone calls from user's who are having problems.

When someone is sick or on vacation, I usually fill in. This past week, I've been here everyday, all day. And its really... stressful. For one, i have no tolerance for people cant follow simple directions. I can be nice, but if you cant be semi-smart or knowledgeable, and you work at a hospital as a nurse or even a doctor, you need to find a different occupation.

Second, this is not my job, my boss is lucky i have this trait, or the help desk would be screwed.

Someone is sick or calls in, at least once a week, so almost every week, im here taking these god damn calls.

With it being the x-mas time of year, guess what plays on the radio that sits 1 foot from me.... x-mas music.

Can you imagine taking calls from idiots all day, and then also having to listen to x-mas music... for 8 hours everyday?

This is without a doubt, the most stressful week I've worked within the passed 2 years.

I almost called in sick myself, cause I do not want to be here. I hate it that much.

I'll be much happier when the x-mas holidays are over and I can get back to my normal job. But then again.... these help desk workers really love their pto.... i fuc*ing hate this place.

holiday pay? its non existant when ur inbetween the bracket of being per diem and full time, im considered " on call ", yet i work 40+ hours every week.

i did get a bonus when the fiscal year ended, about $400, but i was sick that week anyway, so that $400 covered up for having no PTO.

i get 0 benefits, i make about 33k ( not bad at all for tucson) , im 22 years old, i have an associate from itt-tech. and ive been here about 2 years.

i dont mind covering the help desk.... but not every week, and especially not 5 days in a row.

is that supposed to be a sarcastic attempt at calling me a whiner?

heres an example for you. if you work as a mechanic at an auto shop, and you were constatly taken away from your normal job to clean chairs and vaccuum the carpet, wouldnt you start getting mad after it happens to you at least 1-2 times a week? or how about it happened for 2 weeks straight. theres been times where ive worked 3 weeks in a row in this shithole.

I understand you 100%

I work at Kaiser in California...not IT guy, but I deal with Complaints and Grievances...I have a 4 year degree and get paid little more than you do.

The clinical workers are lazy idiots...HMO's, Hospitals...they have a way of turning normal working people into PTO sucking buffoons. These environments support a "for me, $uck you" attitude.

I'm underpaid and do a job that isn't in my description...the people that are actually doing this job (official title) make about 20k more a year than I do...and no, they don't have college degrees of any type, no, their experience (while greater) doesn't seem to reflect their current abilities...

I'm shocked.

but thats life, what can you do?
