Unless you're law enforcement or a celebrity I find that nearly impossible to believe.

It is easy to get a CCW in almost any of the rural counties in California and the permits are valid state-wide. Obviously, the "unfriendly" counties are usually the ones with large population centers. Bay area, LA and SD. There have been movements to try to get a "friendlier" sheriff elected in San Diego, but it just hasn't come about yet. Orange County used to be a "friendly" county as well, but that has ended. When I come down to San Diego, the permit issued to me by the Sacramento Sheriff lets me go all over town, with certain restrictions, of course.

Yep. Kyle, might want to make sure they give and explain the carry laws.

There's one state that you can carry into a bar but you must open carry while inside.😵

Yeah I'd not really considered it before, however I'm now living close to a fairly bad area (found some crack on the sidewalk walking my dog a couple months ago, car was broken in to last night actually, fairly frequent (by Seattle standards) shootings close by...) so I'm starting to think about it.

If I did, I'd be sure to do my research and prob. take a class anyways- I just figured there was a lot more to getting a license.

Highly recommend a class or 2. 8 hr course here.

Thought it took more than that in WA but apparently I was wrong...guess I just assumed since they won;t recognize a permit issued in Texas and we have to do a 10hr training course including a range test...but a quick search just now I found out why, apparently WA doesn't like that Texas will issue a permit to under 21-yr-old honorably discharged veterans...not sure why that would be a problem but oh well

Yea, laws vary from state to state. In Texas, if an establishment gets 51% or more of its revenue in the sale of alcoholic beverages, you can't conceal carry into that establishment. There has to be a clearly conspicuous sign at the entrance stating this fact.

I live in San Diego so it is impossible for me to get a CCW and I refuse to carry illegally unless there's some serious shit going down.

While some of you may say that "it'll never happen to me" or "when am i ever going to get into a situation that'll warrant the need for ccw". Some of us live in bad area or constantly run into bad people. Having working in the county jail for 3 years, you have no idea how many times i've encounter former inmates & future inmates everywhere I go. The mall, CVS, McDonald, the movies, etc...

I would go out somewhere with my girlfriend and all of the sudden you hear someone yelled "CO!!" (what inmates call us for short in jail..correction officer)

at any given week, I would see at least one on the street who recognize me. that is why i always carry

You can tell by the OP that 10 years makes a world of difference in how we view things. 10 years ago this flew under the radar.

What blows peoples minds today was no big deal back then is how I see it lol. People turned into pussies, this was probably common sense circa 2001.

In your case I DEFINITELY would.

Agreed. I've run into the same thing working the street as have several other officers. It hasn't happened with my wife around me yet and I hope it never does.

One of our Drug guys ran into a guy he arrested for cocaine several years prior while he had his twins with him. Dude gave him a smirk and said "Oh, Special Agent Bob, out with the twins." Our guy went nose to nose real quick. All bets are off when the family is involved. As one guy put it "I'm not a cop when I'm with my family, I don't play by cop rules. I play by husband and father rules."

A few years ago I was in Maui with my wife and our son. We had gone out to dinner in Lahaina and were returning to the parking lot where I had parked our rental car when I noticed 2 thugs hanging out in a corner of the lot milling about in the shadows. My alarm went off and I told my wife to take our son back toward the restaurant and wait for me there. I made sure they knew I was aware of their presence as I made a beeline right for my car quickly and with purpose. They watched me but decided not to approach for whatever reason.

I have no doubt that they were there to mug some tourist who wasn't paying attention and I have no doubt that it probably would have been me if I hadn't had my guard up.

Good luck bring a gun to the islands. You'll be the one going to jail most likely.

Good thread, I read the whole thing and appreciate the advice.

Unfortunately in my state (NY) it's rather hard to get a concealed carry permit, but after reading this I will definitely try.
