Time and place for everything. Don't do it where you're putting people in danger and you can race all that you want, IMO.

 
take it to the track... I say open the tracks up at night, they can rent it and as long as they are willing to cover all damages, got for it.
 
Just out of curiousity, what motivated you to make this thread?

BTW-I am opposed to street racing in general but I don't see the harm in a quick 0-60 run every now and then in certain areas. Hell, I've opened up a few cars through the years when the opportunity presented itself. I rarely do this though and don't consider myself a street racer by any stretch of the imagination.

Do insurance companies cover you if you get in an accident at a race track? I would suspect not or if they do I imagine it would be quite expensive.
 
Forget about telling those idiots(yes they are risking other people's lives) to go to a track. The street is 'cool' cause its so gangster. Take that away, they'd be happy driving teh speed limit. Hilarious that cops are starting to strip racers of their cars and taking them apart.

I drive safely and within the speed limit, which keeps those odds to a reasonable level. Going over the speed limit and driving recklessly increases those odds over and above what they need to be.

some of the responses in your thread did, i see theyve carried over into this one but the poll doesnt lie, I am glad to see that street racing is disapproved of by the majority.

If you race at a track in controlled conditions, the event organizers usually take care of insurance, hence the entree and driver fees. youve got it backwards, you should be asking yourself how insurance is going to work out when you get into an accident during a street race.

I figured as much.

I don't street race or consider myself a street racer. Like I said, a quick blast from 0-60 every once in a great while does not make one a street racer. Unless you were cited specifically for street racing I would think the burden of proof would be on the insurance company to prove that you were street racing if they were to try to deny coverage.

You'd probably get a ticket for speeding. If he was in a bad mood he might write you up for show of speed or reckless driving both of which carry stiff fines and harsh penalties when it comes to your insurance. If you are a young punk and are driving a slammed Honda with stickers and wings he might impound your car and bust your ass.

I've done some stupid things in front of cops before. If you treat them with respect and follow their instructions they'll probably just write you a ticket and let you go.

Except that one single mistake pretty much means you're either a smear or a vegetable. Whereas in a car, a mistake is likely to earn a couple weeks in a hospital.


Edit: BTW, OP, how do you define "Street Racing"? Is it a stop light drag to the next light, or high speed weave-around-traffic-till somebody wrecks? Because I think that every once in a while putting some riceboy in his place from a stop light if the street is clear is fine, but a Civic getting into a pissing match with a Corvette on a busy freeway is completely unacceptable.

Street racing is a race between two cars from point a to point b, on a public street.

Recklessly, yes, although the definition of "recklessly" varies quite a bit.
Actually, driving 5-8 over the limit is safer than driving the limit, because that's the 85th percentile in most places in the US. Speed doesn't kill, differences in speed kill. So you driving the limit actually increases the odds that someone will die.

Well yeah, if you use as ambiguous a term as "street racing".
 
Racing any vehicle on streets that are open to the public is stupid ... theres a reason you get hit with 10 points on your license & an automatic suspension in Connecticut & many other states.
