I am comming to the US for a holiday on Monday, there is only one problem though, the holiday company cannot provide a map. Is there a web-site that will show street maps in the Miami area.

I know somewhere for UK streets, but that is not much use.

Well it is not Miami, it is one of the Floridian Keys, it is just Miami where I am flying into.

Maps.com was very good for driving details.

I'd recommend that you just buy a street map from one of the airport newsstands once you arrive in Miami.

amb - its not too hard once u get to miami...rent your car, head east towards the coast, find us-1 and turn south...its the only road that runs through the keys - one of those great things about the keys...u have to be really bad to get lost:)

Yes, you wouldn't believe it, we managed to get lost last year. "head east towards the coast" It is easy saying it, but to a tourist it may be a different thing! I found that layout in America harder to understand than over here, and if you missed a turning, it was hard to go back, but, on the other hand I am sure that it would be the other way around if you cam to visit the UK.

Well, I've never stayed in Miami too long so I can't really point fingers I guess ;) My experiences weren't all that great. Of course there are nice places to stay there I'm sure, but not where I was ;) My favorite places in Florida are Palm Beach (a few hours north of Miami), and Cocoa Beach (a little farther north than that). Orlando is pretty cool too (that's where we had our honeymoon), if only for Disney and Cape Kennedy (where NASA sends up rockets and shuttles).

As far as coolest places in the US - Seattle, WA is cool, as is Santa Monica, CA (and the area around Santa Monica except LA - Hollywood and Beverly Hills). On the East Coast, I'd have to give New York City a thumbs up for visiting, even though I wouldn't want to live there :p It's worth a visit though if only to see all the stuff you see in the movies. Most of the people there are actually pretty friendly, unless you're just passing them on the street :D Places I've never been to but would love to see are Salt Lake City, Utah (in Winter so I can ski!) and anywhere in Montana (dunno why, just sounds cool).

Hope you have a great vacation/holiday!

Especially the 'tourist-being-shot-in a-rented-car-with-map-on-his-knees' part should be the most fun.;)

I agree with bigjon, Miami is not the place to stay in Florida. I do like the Keys, but it doesn't take long to see all there is to see. You'll like it if you just want to kick back on the beach with a few tropical drinks. :)

In Florida, I really like Cocoa Beach. Plenty to see in the area, but pretty laid back at the beach. Nice people too. If you have kids you have to go to Orlando.

My two favorite places to go for the beach in the eastern U.S. are Cape Cod and Myrtle Beach. Really really really nice people at both places and great beaches. Can't get lost in either place. Cape Cod is very historic and very laid back. If you go there, stay on the cape, but definitey visit Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. I especially like MV. Myrtle Beach is families and very touristy, but lots to do, especially if you like golf, go carts, eating seafood, shopping, and taking long walks on the beach.

Virginia Beach is not that great a beach, but there's a lot of American/British history and a lot to do within an hour's drive of the place. Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, Busch Gardens, the Great Dismal Swamp Wildlife Refuge, Water Country U.S.A., and the Chesapeake Bay.

One more good beach area is the Outer Banks of North Carolina, but only if you want to get away from it all and like to fish and go diving around sunken ships. Kitty Hawk is there and so is Roanoke Island and the "Lost Colony" for a little U.S./British history too.

Ick, Palm Bitch (Beach), how boring!
Then again, I live in Miami itself so my standard of fun is a bit high :)
