Ok, I totally love this game. I'm pretty crappy to say the least, but I am having a blast. This is my type of fighting game. 2D, not serious, just fun. I really love it. I was on the fence about it but after reading this thread for the past few days I just had to buy it and well worth full price.
I'm thinking of picking up one of the fight pads (The $40 ones that are a D pad and six face buttons) since I don't want to invest in a stick but wouldn't mind a little better controller (Triggers are no fun in fighting games)

Not sure if you can continue or not, but I beat him perfect and am far from an elite player. Just go through on the easiest setting and when you fight him use Akuma's low hard kick and keep on him(when he gets knocked down, move slightly forward). He's far easier to beat then Seth and is actually a really nice alternative to Akuma(has way more health then Akuma).

Why does El Fuerte sometimes act and sound like a chicken? I was like WTF the first time.

What if I go through the first time with Akuma? Will I get Gouken and unlock him the first time? Akuma's ultra is stupidly easy to do.

You should, the requirements are that you beat gouken with the arcade mode of akuma finished. So if you use akuma the first time and get 2 perfects and 3 ultra finishes, you'll end up fighting gouken in the end. BUT since gouken comes after seth it still counts as akuma finishing his arcade mode.

If this game is for hte PS3 and 360, why is there all this talk of special joysticks? nastalgia? Or do you actually need to have an arcade style stick to do combos (because of pressing multiple buttons at once)?
I want to know what people that are not fans think of the game think (the ones that bought it).

What are the actual requirements for Akuma, does anyone know? I know you don't have to beat the game having beaten it with all the other unlockable characters(everywhere says you do, but I didn't beat the game with Gen until I couldn't open up Gouken) and the run through I got him I had one perfect and one ultra- didn't work with four perfects and four ultras.
Fighters feel more natural for fans of the genre with a stick button combo as close to the arcade as possible. Given that SF set the standard for exactly what the layout was supposed to look like, and a whole bunch of us cut our teeth on SFII or one of the sub titles, makes a lot of sense that people would rather play it with the ideal setup. I'm using Dual shock/six axxis pads and they aren't bad as long as you stick with the D-Pad, but the game would certainly feel far more natural to me if I had a proper joystick to play with. It's akin to racing games and wheels, it just feels better.
I think you are going to find that hard to get an honest answer. If you like 2D fighting games, odds are as close to certain as you are going to get that you are going to love this game, and are almost certainly already a fan. It is the pinnacle of its' type of game. If you do not like 2D fighting games, nothing here is going to change your mind.

To start, I'm pretty sure you have to play through the game with someone you've already beaten it with. Then, when going through, you cannot have any continues! Also, you should have at least one perfect and one ultra finish.
The above is what I've read numerous places, and this is exactly how I did it. I used Sakura, who I had used before to unlock Dan (I think it was Dan anyway). I finished 2 matches with a perfect and one with an ultra, and got Akuma on the first try. I beat him and it unlocked him for me.

Can anyone tell me why Dan has a super taunt in the game? It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. If someone actually used their full super bar to do a taunt during a match, I'd die from laughter while they beat me into submission. The taunt lasts so long, though, and covers the entire screen, I can't imagine anyone actually going the distance with it before being hit. 🙂

dan is a joke character making fun of Art of Fighting.
art of fighting basically copied ryu 100% with this guy named Ryo, so it's basically capcom coming back and making fun of someone from that game. and tey just made him completely ridiculous to basically mock the fact that AOF copied an SF character, but they kind of went the other extreme.
that is why he is like a crippled shoto character and is all pretty boyish and stuff and wears pink. his whole character is supposed to be a joke so his super taunt is simply a joke too.

i also found out he's making fun of some guy named Robert too w/his hairstyle and chin.
If you're playing with the 1 round setting, you need to beat the game with someone you've already beaten it with and beat it again with no continues at all and at least one ultra finish. Be careful and do like 1 or 2 ultra finishes max since if you do too many, you end up fighting gouken instead lol.
wow that sucks. I had a friend over the other day who hadn't played on a stick in a while. I pretty much baby my TE stick and play gently on it, but my friend was literally slamming his fingers on the buttons and putting his entire arm into the joystick motion
The last time I really played a Street fighter was back in 1994 when I was a little kid mashing buttons. It wasn't until Street fighter IV was released in the arcades last year that I started getting into the franchise. To be honest I've spent under $5 at the arcade machines, but I liked the game enough to purchase HD remix and play the hell out of it while I waited for SFIV to come to console.
I've since spent close to $400 on the game buying two arcade joysticks and the CE edition. Totally worth every penny to me, but then again I love competitive games of any genre as long as it has a large user base.

Depends on if you have any friends playing on either system. If not, then pick whichever you think you'll like the controls better for. 360 d-pad isn't as horrible as everyone was expecting, and the PS3 d-pad is more prone to hurting your thumb after prolonged use.
