my suggestion still goes to chromcast.
same price or cheaper, far less headache, clean and very portable

ok, i just got the rasp pi model B for $40. installed xbmc and freaking amazed at what it can do. now im a believer! sure the boot time is painfully slow at around 30 seconds....but it uses so little electricity, i might as well, leave it on all day, or boot it ahead of time.

Dont know if the rpi can support sdxc at full speed, which can be much faster reading than sdhc.

I thought you couldn't cast local media

you can via Plex + Plex server. if you already have setup another DLNA compatible media server then you can also use Avia.
what i meant was that there is no native app from google that can and/or will do that.

if none of these options is viable you can also copy/paste a link to your local media into the chrome browser and cast it that way. not an ideal solution but a solution.

google just made the SDK for chromecast public and many more apps are expected to come. i know that MX Player is working on implementing chromecast as well

Interesting. But I probably can't control it with my phone while streaming from a server.
