Streaming Audio from Media Player

I'm looking to stream media from my computer to others on my network so they play the same song at the same time. I read something about windows media connect but I'm not sure if that's what I'm after. What hardware and or software do I need to make this happen?
 
Is this not possible? I would have thought it would be a little box or maybe just some software. Someone must have done this throughout their house before.
