Stream Music to Receiver?

I have enough parts to build a HTPC but I see no reason to.
I have DishNetwork with a DVR, I don't watch movies twice and will probably never have broadband. We are too far out in the sticks. So I can't see downloading movies.
I was thinking of just building a file server/back up machine.
Is there a way to stream my music to my receiver?
It's a Denon AVR 3805

I am not sure what you mean exactly by stream. But If you connect via a digital cable such as optical or digital coax you'll be able to hear all your computer audio played from your computer.

I have a Slim Devices Squeezebox. Best network music player out there, in my opinion. It streams just about every file format, connects to multiple Internet Radio stations (including XM), plays Rhapsody tracks (with subscription) and is extremely customizable.

There are tons of cheaper wireless music streamers - the Squeezebox mentioned earlier may be the best, but I have a couple of devices I bought on closeout sites for $20-30 that do the trick just fine.

Here's one example for ~$50, I'm sure you could find many more if you tried very hard. This is, of course, assuming you have a wireless network already...if not, why not? ;)

I have the AVR-3805 as well. It's been a solid performer for me. Only downside is no HDMI connectivity (due to its being a few years old now).

How far is your receiver from your computer? Is running an optical cable not possible? It's the cheapest solution.

LOL
It's probably 6 feet away, through a wall.

Well...are you willing to install a wall plate on each side?

That's an option but it seems the last optical cable I bought was about $75 for 1 meter. Come to think of it, I may have 1 left over.
Do they make plates for optical cable?

EDIT
Nope, wrong cable.

I use iTunes to stream to an Airport Express, which itself is connected to my Yamaha receiver via optical cable. Simple and easy.

Do you have a digital coax out on your mobo/sound card?

Yes you do. That would be the yellow RCA connector.

You need:

1x http://www.monoprice.com/produ...id=2681&seq=1&format=2

2x http://www.monoprice.com/produ...id=2680&seq=1&format=2

The 3 ft cable would be used in wall to connect the wall plates. The 6 ft cables would be used to connect the computer to the wall plate and the wall plate to the receiver.

Damn, one stop service. Thanks a lot.

Dlink makes some nice streaming boxes check em out... It's a pretty good way to stream not just music but video as well. Even a modified xbox one makes an excellent choice!

With a connection that close, wireless is an unnecessary addition. Like others have suggested I have a digital coax running from my soundcard (SB Live Platinum) to my reciever. (Yamaha RX-V2095)
