So I found a stray cat in downtown Salt Lake City, just wandering around with no collar. It is well behaved and all. I'm wondering if I should just let it wander home or have animal control pick it up in the morning? It's in my apartment right now.

I would, believe me -- it is such a nice cat! I can't have cats in my apartment though.

(Assuming you meant permanently, not just for tonight)

There are packs of stray cats running around my hometown. It is really sad.

I remember one day when I pulled into taco bell and there were 6 or so kittens (maybe not kittens - could just be underdeveloped due to their diet, but I think they were kittens due to their behavior) in the parking lot. :(

it could have a micro chip. get it scanned and find owner.

Would a vet do this? Would there be a charge?

last time i found a dog i just called humane society. they have a scanner thing. didnt cost anything but i had to wait around for them to show up.

Anyone else? Should I have brought the cat home or not? Should I post signs or just check with the Humane Society or set it free on downtown Salt Lake City... ?

><

Most likely I will either have my parents watch it till my lease is up or send it to the Humane Society (hopefully they do pickups because I don't have a car).

Also, I checked if it had a microchip, but it doesn't.

I'd keep it, and tell it to keep a low profile so you don't get caught :^D

You could put up some fliers locally and see if it has an owner. If your parents are willing to take it in for a bit, that's a pretty good option. I've found all the cats I've had(3), and that's my preferred way to acquire pets. You get an animal off the streets that doesn't have too many prospects, and give it a good home. Everybody wins in that case :^)

See if any friends want it. Otherwise if you dont want it to have the possibility of being put down. Bring it to a no kill shelter. Otherwise the humane society should take it.
