Stray cat bit me.

Should I be worried?

I've been getting pretty paranoid lately about rabies 😱

Not sure how common it is with cats though.

The cat hangs around our apartment complex, and I doubt anyone owns it. So last night I open my door, and there it was, just looking at me. It looked harmless, so I pet it. A couple minutes later it just decides to bite me. I didn't do any harm, it was just sitting there.

Anyway, the bite marks didn't penetrate my skin very much (probably less than 1mm) but the marks are kinda pinkish red (normal scratch marks)

Should I be worried about rabies? I don't know how common it is in my area (San Jose) but I'm still pretty paranoid.

Any insight?

Or should I rush to the doc now?

I'd check with a doctor just in case. Does this cat look mangy at all? did it show any aggression afterwards??

LOL...

If it didn't even really draw blood, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Heh thanks guys.

The cat looked pretty normal though. Nothing out of the ordinary. I guess I just irritated it.

The cat's been there for months now so I guess there's nothing wrong with it.

cant ever be too safe...get out the machete and take off that hand

Lots of cats will bite and scratch when they get petted. It's like how dogs do the whole rear-leg bicycle movement when you pat their tummy.

Never heard it described quite that way, but it fits. It cracks me up whenever I can get one of my dogs legs going.
😎

next time a cat scratches u, catch it. when it dies, and they cut it open they can find out if it has rabies!

You're probably fine. Cats can get picky about how/when they like to be petted. Just keep the wound clean.

Cats carry heavy growth of bacteria in their mouths. Bites are readily infected. If it has broken the skin, it would be worth popping to your doctor or to an ER and get a course of antibiotics.

Yup. Rabies shots are a series of three (in da butt) over a period of time, I used to give them all the time in the ER to people that got a little too close to racoons.

you should go get some heavy anitbiotics.

Deep infections in the hand can
1) it hurts like hell
2) damage caused by the infection will likely affect how your hand functions... there isn't much fatty tissue in the hand, everything has a function.
3) disminish your ability to pleasure yourself

seriously, go get some drugs.
