Stray bullet kills toddler in her home

Yeeny

I didn't see this anywhere here, so if its a repost, sorry.

Story

YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) ? A few days short of her second birthday, Amy Guzman was sitting on her parents' bed between her mother and father, clutching a stuffed Winnie the Pooh and watching a Pooh video.

Then the mirrored headboard seemed to explode. Amy was suddenly limp, bleeding onto her stuffed animal, mortally wounded by a ricocheting bullet fired a block away. Police say a man recklessly taking target practice fired a hunting rifle into a bustling neighborhood.

How stupid do you have to be, to fire a gun in a populated area for target practice? I mean, I am sure he didn't mean this to happen, but that doesn't bring the kid back. Those poor parents. 🙁

A very sad reminder that guns ARE too dangerous to be handled without extreme care.

I feel sorry for these parents 🙁

Oh my, that is truly saddening. 🙁

And the parents were sitting right next to her too?! They probably would rather that the bullet strayed to one of them instead of the kid. 🙁 🙁

What an idiot of a gun-owner.

This was a little more than lack of care, this was pure recklessness. I hope he spends a long time in a cell thinking about that little girl.

Farking idiots with fargin hunting rifles in the friggen neighborhood. They should lock him in jail for 90 years. IDIOTS!!!:|:|:|:|:|

WTF do you need to be shooting a hunting rifle for in the city? Man this pisses me off!!! That's why I've never touched a gun and never plan on using one

That guy should be sent away and the key tossed!!:| At the very least ti should be Murder 1.........He took out a high power hunting rifle in a city neighborhood and fired it knowing full well the possible implications not to mention it is illegal to fire a gun inside most city limits!!! Idiots like this give all gun owners a bad name.......thing is, most of us will be as mad or madder than those against guns because he is also hurting us!!:|

<< Farking idiots with fargin hand guns in the friggen neighborhood. >>

According to the article, he

<< fired a hunting rifle >>

IMHO, anyone who kills someone else due to careless actions with a firearm should receive a life sentence. Voluntary or not, you should pay a high price for carelessness around a dangerous weapon that was designed to kill, like a gun.

I just cannot picture the hell those poor parents are going through. Sitting there playing with your toddler one second, rushing her to the hospital the next with a bullet in her head? Thats just so unreal.... that is something they will replay in their minds for the rest of their lives, all for the ten second action of some idiot.

Truly sad, but folks that try to make the rules to fit the exceptions ignore stats like the frequency of deaths from drunk drivers & automobile accidents. 160/day.

The moron that fired the gun will pay, maybe we can make reckless death using a gun a hate crime & kill the fool twice.

The Sociology of Death Interesting link & some conclusions too...

Not looking for flames here, but if this would have happened in Europe, this guy's license would have been pulled back and he would have to pay the parents a large sum of money, after which he would face some time in jail. But most important of all, he would never again get a license to own any kind of firearm. That's the power of guncontrol.

Hell yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

Maybe I am mistaken, but I don't think you need a license to own a rifle or shotgun in the US, do you? Just if you want to use it for hunting. Not like a handgun, where you need a permit?

And Elledan, that actually a good idea. Too bad they can't weed idiots out before they actually get the gun though.

If he's convicted of a felony he'll never be able to own a gun again anyway.

(or does that just apply to handguns?)

Thats what I am wondering Viper, because I really don't think you need to apply for anything to buy a shotgun or rifle.

I believe it's all guns. That's why that wacko G. Gordon Liddy owns no guns, but his wife has a lot. People like that make me sick!

I disagree, anyone who does something this stupid should be killed, immediately. The gene pool needs to be chlorinated anyway. My only hope is the bastard is so overcome with remorse about his stupidity, he kills himself and saves us the cost of a trial.

Otherwise, my heart goes out to the parents, what a terrible waste. 🙁

its not the guns, its the access to them. Its too damn easy to get em, especially rifles and such.
Back in europe you take psycho-test (evaluation) before they issue you a license

Let's not blame the gun for the idiot behind it. This guy needs a loooooong sentence, but it's not the fault of the gun. The problem is that we need to prosecute these types of people more vigorously. Once people learn that we will punish violations of the current gun statutes, we won't need gun bans.

<< Once people learn that we will punish violations of the current gun statutes, (..) >>

And how long do you think this will take?

It's not the fault of the gun, true, but you can restrict the access to firearms for idiots and mentally unstable people. Again, guncontrol.
