Never liked strawberry milk (or regular for that matter). Always loved chocolate milk though, and even better whatever the hell NesQuik is.

wha? you madman! D:

Chocolate milk > *

Whole milk > reduced fat milk > nesquik > skim milk

Strawberry milk has it's place from time to time, but unfortunately it is always artificially flavored. The beauty of chocolate milk is that it can be made with wholesome ingredients if you don't cheap out, and is the next best thing to ambrosia if that is the case. :)

Ovaltine, or GTFO. The malt makes it wonderful.

Well you should qualify that with "Ovaltine Chocolate Milk" - there are non-Malt varieties.

Nitpicking aside, I agree. Ovaltine Malt is greater than anything nesquik. Though my above post still stands.

However, it can be clarified:

Whole milk >= ovaltine > reduced fat milk > nesquik > skim milk

I might place Ovaltine on equal standing with both whole milk and 1% and 2% varieties, but it is leagues better than Nesquik and obviously way ahead of skim milk - water is better than skim milk, quite frankly.

I thought about clarifying, but figured people knew the late coming bastard stepchild wasn't included. I like the non chocolate malt also. I usually alternate when I buy it. Chocolate malt, then plain malt.

Wait, eh?

As in, regular chocolate milk Ovaltine?

I wasn't around when Ovaltine was new. All I've ever known is Chocolate Malt and Chocolate Milk. I didn't even know they made a plain Malt version. Malt is decent as a flavor, but I only use it to add in recipes, never make a straight up Milk Malt.

My uncle made his own butter. The cows would eat the spring onions when they came up, and the butter would have natural onion flavor. That was the best, but the milk probably sucked. His regular milk was good. Dunno if the spring milk tasted like onion.

Is it a "natural flavor" vs "artificial flavor" or is it "chocolate (chocolate liquor, cocoa, cocoa butter)" and etc... vs "natural flavor" and/or "artificial flavor" ?

I like actually knowing what it is, and indeed, actual chocolate is more wholesome than any flavor that can only be called natural or artificial flavor. If they can't call it cocoa or chocolate on the label and call it "natural flavor" than obviously it is neither of those, because why would you NOT call it cocoa or chocolate? You use those labels when you want to hide the source.

I think the plain chocolate is a relatively new addition. If it was generally available, it wasn't around here. We only had plain malt and chocolate malt when I was growing up. Ovaltine predates me, so I don't know which was first, but my money would be on plain malt. Look for the yellow based label.

Well I don't buy any of it these days, but the Chocolate Malt is very tasty.

Was curious. It predates me by much more than I thought. It was originated in Switzerland in 1904. Looks like chocolate malt was the first flavor...

Originally advertised as consisting solely of "malt, milk, eggs, flavored with cocoa," the formulation has changed over the decades, and today several formulations are sold in different parts of the world.

The popular chocolate malt version is a powder which is mixed with hot or cold milk as a beverage. Malt Ovaltine (a version without cocoa) and Rich Chocolate Ovaltine (a version without malt) are also available in some markets. Ovaltine has also been available in the form of chocolate bars, chocolate Easter eggs, parfait, cookies, and breakfast cereals, where it is the only brand name that connects the cereals with the chocolate drink.

just seeing the words "strawberry milk" nearly made me puke

I hate it when people divide everyone into stupid, broad categories. It's incredibly stupid.

But in my experience in this world there are definitely strawberry milk people, and then the rest of us.

Among the few valuable lessons I learned in high school was that drinking strawberry Quik was not an effective method of calming a stomach troubled by the excessive consumption of alcohol.
