Mine are starting to fruit, in fact I just picked a small ripe one.
WOW
It was a TriStar variety... holy moly what an intense flavor.

You all did plant strawberries this year, right?

I don't think it is too late to order some.

Last frost free day in Indiana is sometime in May. Plus I live in an appartment. I am going to put out tomatoes in pots this year. Also, I'm going to try and rent a small house and put out a garden next year.

i eat'em with sugar

mix in a tiny, tiny bit of salt in that sugar and the strawberries taste even yummier

When I was a youngster living in CA we had a nice big patch of strawberries in the back yard. It seemed like those plants were perpetually producing nice big, plump, fresh, juicy, sweet strawberries...sigh. Damn, I could really use a strawberry right now.

Garden strawberries seem to have 10-20 times the flavor of store bought ones. I think they force a bunch of water into them right before picking so they earn as much money as possible. Of course, that just leads to large watered down berries. It is to the point that I won't eat a store bought strawberry anymore.

<< we have a patch that is about 4 years old now. they get better each year >>

That won't allways hold. The plant will only produce berries for 1 year. It will grow daughter plants with berries for 1 year though. Eventually there are so many older mother plants that you run out of space for new daughter plants and you have no more berries. Thus every 5 years you need some serious pruning to keep up the good production. Unfortunately, that means that you will have less berries the year you prune.

I am growing mine in bags filled with sand, soil, and peat.
Sometimes, one of the little plants will just die.
These are very picky plants.
