That's hardly surprising. Apple has been trying their hardest to reenact Microsoft v Apple during the 80s and 90s, and they've succeeded.

I've always seen a parallel like that, the best part is, commodity PC's became cheap as hell, and phones seem to be going the same route.
 
Given that Apple and Samsung collectively account for >98% of the profit in most quarters, I don't think Apple cares all that much if they only account for about 10% of the shipments. It will be interesting to see what the Q4 numbers look like, because if Samsung takes a big enough write down due to the Note 7 recall, Apple might have all of the profit for themselves.
