I was sitting at my computer doing some cleaning...The ligts flicker slightly and then i hear this loud POP. I feel the hair on my arms and neck stand up. To me it sounded like an arc, but I didn't se a flash. After looking around for a few seconds ant not noticing anything unusual, I thought maybe the crappy table I have my computer on is giving out...I go to get up and then I see it...a little 9V battery with the cap where the terminals are popped right off. And there were other ones which were, used in my distortion pedal, starting to bulge for some reason. I can't figure out why it's doing it either. I just hurried up and chucked them out. I don't think they were necessarily a bad batch...the one that blew was a Duracell and the others that were bulging were a Duracell and an Energizer. Scared the crap out of me at first.

Cliffs:
-Sitting at computer
-lights flicker
-POP
-finds that battery pops/explodes
-finds others that look like they're going to do the same
-can't figure out why
-throws away said batteries.

I don't have a digital camera, so no pictures.

HAHA, exact same thing happened to me with an EQ pedal. The manual recommended you use a 9V AND and AC adapter, they were wrong.

Batteries sometimes pop in devices, but I've never seen them sitting there not in something and popping. As far as the lights flickering, that's very odd. EM pulse? Any casinos nearby someone is trying to rob perhaps?

I'm not sure. We're supposed to get some nasty thunderstorms headed our way, but other than that I can't figure out what the deal is. It still feels like my skin is crawling.

BTW, there's nothing power consuming close to my house. I live on a rural streat in E. Bumfvck.

I just degaussed my monitor. I've never seen the display shake that much before.
