Strange Wireless Issues

I have a Linksys wireless network set up in my apartment. It is working fine for one of the two computers that I would eventually like to connect. However, I can't get online on the other computer to save my life. Here is the hardware I am using:

Linksys BEFCMU10 (Modem)
Linksys WRT54G (Wireless-G Router)
Linksys WPC54G (Wireless-G PCMIA Card)
Linksys WMP11 (Wireless-B PCI Card)

The router is backwards compatible (supposedly) with Wireless-B cards, so I don't think that's the problem. I have it set to send both signals from the router. The laptop is the card that is working (which I am posting from now). The PCI card is the one that I'm having trouble with.

The router only recognizes (assigns an IP address to) the wireless PCI card when I have a hardwire connection between the router and an ethernet card in that same computer. In that case, an IP is assigned to both the ethernet card and the wireless card. I am able to come online through the ethernet card's connection... When there is no hardwired connection, there is no IP assigned to the wireless card or the ethernet card, thus no internet. In both cases the wireless card recognizes that there is a wireless connection available, but isn't able to connect to it.

I don't have any sort of encryption set up for this system yet - trying to keep things as simple as possible until I get everything working properly. I really don't understand why in the world the wireless card would be seeing that there is a connection available, but not being able to connect to it. I've tried changing channels and everything - all to no avail. Anything anyone can suggest would be very very very much appreciated. It's really starting to tick me off...

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Did you try to put the computer with the WMP11 very close to the Router?

Could be that the signal is not strong, or and stable enough to get an IP.

The computer is within 10 feet of the router. My laptop gets a wireless signal from anywhere in this apartment (I tried walking around with it), so I don't think strength of signal'd be the problem here. Any other ideas?

At this point I would take out both NICs reset the network, and freshly re-install the WMP11 on its own.

If it does not work then back to Linksys.
