Strange Wireless Connection Issues

Hi Everyone,

I am having an odd problem with my wireless connection. I use an ALFA AWUS036NEH adapter. I watch a lot of youtube videos so I am going to explain the problem using it as an example. Sometimes I watch a video and it buffers at 720p very quickly - loading a 10-20 minute video in about 5 minutes. However other times my internet connection becomes very slow, loading a 10 minute video in 15 minutes at 240p - The connection is never completely lost however.

Any ideas? Is this common with wireless connections? - I have never really used one before.

If I need to post more information just say what you need me to post.

Thanks!

PS - I wasn't sure which forum to post this is so please move to networking if that's where it should be.

do you have a password to protect you connection. and yes it could get slow.who is your internet provider.

I had one of those Alfa adapters - it did exactly the same thing as yours over time. Disconnecting and reconnecting the adapter would temporarily fix the problem. I eventually gave it away as I was never able to resolve the problem to my satisfaction.

Is there an option in your wireless router to limit the minimum connection speed of wireless clients? If so, you can try to set the option.

Whilst I hope that isn't the case I have only had it for 2 or 3 weeks.

When I said "over time", I meant it would throttle down over the course of the day eventually staying connected at its lowest supported speed.

Ahh that sounds slightly different to my problem. Sometimes the speed will start of slowly and get faster later, or remain slow or vice versa, there is no set pattern that I can determine.
