Hey Guys,

I just built a system for my sister, it worked perfectly when i put it together. When she tries booting it up with her monitor connected (a 3-4 year old viewsonic) it loads the winXP boot screen but the display just powers down when it should be booting into windows.

She can the video to work in safe mode, but no other luck.

Thing worked fine on the two monitors I used while doing the install.

Here is the system.

MSI Barebone System for Socket A AMD Duron/Athlon CPU, Model MEGA 180, Retail Barebone computer with
1 gig Mushkin 3200 DDR Ram
AMD Barton 2800+
120 gig Maxtor 7200rpm HD

The mobo has Integrated in nFORCE2 Gforce 4MX

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you set the refresh rate or resolution beyond the older monitors specifications when you did the install by chance?

Can you tell if the computer fully boots into XP or if it hangs (can you blindly select an application from the start menu and get HDD activity even though you have no picture). If your not getting any activity then it is something other than the monitor as XP would still boot normally you just wouldnt get display. Is everything the same as what you used to install other than the monitor. My previous motherboard was wierd in that if i used a USB mouse instead of a PS/2 one it would hang up after the boot screen regardless of what I did giving me a similair problem as to what your saying(display powering down).

Sounds like she did an update of video driver since it works in safe mode and not in normal. You might try to uninstall the vid driver in safe mode and put in another version of the vid driver.
