I have a friends computer here, and recently he said that his Ipod and other usb devices were not working at all. Nothing happens when you plug a USB device into any of the ports. In device manager, there is an excalmation point next to each of the USB Controllers. It says, "Code 28. The Drivers are not Installed" or something to that effect. I tried to reinstall the drivers, and it dosent complete with either one of 2 errors. "Access is Denied" or "The Data is Invalid" I have tried to uninstall the USB controllers, then reboot, and let windows find new drivers, but the same errors come up. I even went to the trouble of getting a PCI card and installing that, and it still gives me those errors. If at all possible, I do not want to format the PC. Ive tried pretty much everything I can think of, and google is not really helping a whole lot. I really want to fix this, I have no clue whats wrong with it

There is a Hotfix for USB on XP... Are you running SP1 or SP2... Look on the manufacturers website sometimes there are fixes from there respective sites.... Also make sure USB is not disabled in the bios... when you double click on the exclamation points what errors are you getting and is it the same error that you get with the card you just bought.

SP2 is installed, i enabled USB in the bios, all 6 ports. The motherboard is an MSI 845G Max. I installed the latest version of intels chipset drivers, and even tried a few older ones. The error I get is, "the drivers are not installed for this device. Code 28" When I attempt to reinstall the driver, the installation stops with the access denied or the data is invalid error.
