Recently got a new AMD USB card reader. I plugged it into my laptop first and it caused the sytem to shut down by itself; first displaying the generic message about shutting down to protect windows, bs, bs, etc. I rebooted and it worked just fine. (WinXP Home) I was able to read info, download files, etc. That was yesterday.
Today, I plugged it into my desktop and the system did the same thing the first time. I figured, wtf, it did it before, now it will "mysteriously" work; just like the laptop. No such luck. When I plug the reader into the USB port (any one of 4 on the back or the 4 extensions on the front), it first displays the normal recognition message in the systray (USB device). Then it says Media Reader in the little display and then the sytem reboots. Every time; every port.
I should add that I can plug other USB devices into any one of the ports and it functions perfectly; either USB 1 or USB 2 devices.
MB is A7V333r, new build with latest via chipset drivers and USB drivers. Absolutely running clean, cool and fast for about 6 weeks now. OS is WinXP Pro on this desktop. Any ideas? I know the SOB worked just fine yesterday. I'll try it again in the laptop later. Looking for suggestions though. :frown:
Edit: I should also note that I checked in Device Manager under USB and there are no problems listed; all is as it should be.
