Strange things while defragmenting

I was defragmenting my hard drive last night when I found a display of the clusters of my hard drive in a pattern. Usually the clusters are all jumbled and disorder, but this was an ordered pattern of clusters and spaces. I don't know if this is normal, and since I am at school, I don't have the screenshot I took. I'll try to get the screenshot if this is unusual. Anyone with similiar experiences?

I used to notice that as well. I think it's due to the way the data is laid out on the hard drive, which is in a circular pattern, and how defragmentation programs display it, which is in a rectangular shape on screen, with blocks of sizes that vary on the screen resolution and drive size.
