strange thing about my Q3 benchmarks

My PC is Athlon 600 + FICSD-11+ 256M P100 + 177.8MHZ Radeon LE (H-Z enabled)

/timedemo 1, /demo demo001 gave me results below

640x480x32 55.8FPS x16 58.4 FPS
800x600x32 55.6 x16 56
1024x768x32 48.5 x16 49
1280x1024x32 36.7 x16 37.4

Even if I use 640x480x16 and with 16bit low texture, I only get 59.8 FPS.
My monitor refresh frequency is around 75Hz and v-sync is disabled.

What is my problem here?
I thought the 640x480x16 should give me very high FPS.

The Cpu is definitely not the bottleneck at 58fsb. Even the Radeon should give over 100fps @ 640x480. Something else is the problem.

I am new to these benchmarks.

When doing Q3 timedemo, I set 32 bit texture, texture quality high, lightning, etc etc, most things are kept at maxium value.

I didn't diable sound either. Should I do so ?

<< Do you have a VIA mobo? If so, do you have the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers installed? >>

yes, SD-11 has via 686A and I have 4in1431v installed.

There are a few other things I don't understand.

What does GLsetup do? My Radeon driver includes OpenGL driver also right? What does GLsetup do? It crashed on me everytime I tried to install it from their website.

In sandra video card inf. it says
AGP bus 1.0
Bus speed 67MHz
side band support: yes
side band enabled: no (how to enable it?)
fast write enabled: no (?)
Aperture size: 32 M

In dX8.0a, it says
AGP texture acceleration: not available

Anything wrong with my system ?

Ok, this is odd. I never tried it, but I just now did. I ran q3 in "fastest" mode, then turned it to 640x480, lowered the texture to the worst, and let demo127 rip. The results: 87 fps.

The problem with this is that I have a Tbird at 950 with a geforce 256 ddr! Anyone else see a problem with this? Haven't people been sayin it should be well in the the 100+?

The geforce is not overclocked (as I didnt bother to find coolbits after installing the lastest dets (12.41 i think?) =) But still!

<< Do you use the r_swapinterval command? >>

"r_swapInterval" - Enabling this setting eliminates the slight screen ripping that appears when your framerate exceeds your monitors refresh rate. Bear in mind that although the FPS loss is not large, I found there to be a slight lag between mouse/keyboard to the on screen action. Bear in mind that if you have disabled vsync externaly (perhaps through your graphics drivers tools facilty) then this setting is bypassed.

Doesn't really help me in my case 🙁

Go into BIOS and set your aperture size to 64MB, see if that makes a difference. Looks like there might be AGP probs.

Which version of the game are you running?

My FPS on a 1GHz Athlon / All-In-Wonder Radeon (32MB) were:

1.27g - 85 FPS
1.27h - 120 FPS

This was at the "High Quality" setting (800x600x32) w/ a 75Hz refresh rate and V-sync disabled.

I think those benchmarks may have been using v 1.17 which I've read was even faster.

I am a quake 3 timedemo veteran ehehe

Anyway.. I wouldnt worry too much about your low res scores... who wants to play at low res with a geforce anyway?? Try the fixes these previous gentlement have suggested and see what happens but your higher res fps are very playable and ok

the 1.17 is the fastest version.. my system took a MAJOR hit going from 1.17 to 1.27g.. .unfortunately 1.27h (which runs faster than 1.27g) has a few sound issues on my system(1.27h is beta btw and mainly was for server side) so i use 1.27g..

I went from getting 76fps at 1152res 32bit textures maxed to 58fps at same settings in 1.27g
BUT that is running a diff demo in 1.27 which the command is

timedemo 1
demo demo127

plus the newer version fixes the sky and water textures compression so you are getting a graphical boost for the fps loss

Good rule of thumb... If you can play the game and get an average fps greater than 50 (which isnt as smoothe as 90 but very playable) at 1024 res medium settings.. your system is running fine =)

Oh dont worry about gl setup.. that thing never worked right for me in fact it can mess you up!!!

Dont worry about enabling sideband it does very little if anything

DO enable fast writes this can make a diff(although not huge)
