strange temps

i was just doing some video encoding, i noticed that the CPU was under 100% use and the temp was 42C yet at idle the temp is 42C???? any ideas? rig in sig

any reason why it would be reading wrong? i mean it seems pretty accurate when room temperature goes up, CPU and case temp temperature goes up. when room temps go down so do the case and cpu temps so it seems that it is fairly accurate

Well Abit on average reads about 10C higher...

acuually, the temps reported by their older bios is fairly accurate as where the temps recorded by their latest bio reads temps 10C too low

42c...hah. Sheesh, try 60c with a Athlon. 42 is freezing compared to my standerds.

i'm not concerned with the temps per se, just the fact that the idle temps and 100% usage temps are the same

you running any distributed computing in the background?

check cpu usage with task manager when you're "idle".

I would say that it has to do with the smart fan II. Think about it, the cpu gets hotter, the fan goes faster, in turn keeping the cpu a nice 42C. They say that you hardly ever get the fans at full power.
