Strange Temps on Core Quad Q6600

Hi,

I just installed another core2 quad Q6600, and I am reading quite strange temperatures. I am using watercooling, room temperature is around 25°C, and temps are measured after 1 hour (computer doing nothing).

Speedfan reports this :
CPU temp: 35°C
Core #0 : 29°C
Core #1 : 27°C
Core #2 : 20°C
Core #3 : 22°C

T.A.T. reports:
CPU 1 : 45°C
CPU 2 : 42°C

ASUS PC Probe II reports:
CPU : 35°C

I'm used to see similar readings between Speedfan and T.A.T., but here they are quite different, also Core temps should be higher than "CPU" temp.
Also, here I have 2 cores (#2 and #3) below room temperature which is impossible. Also Should I worry to have such a difference between Core 0/1 and 2/3? (I checked, CPU block is installed correctly, and pressure is even).

I use a ASUS P5K-Deluxe MB

Can anyone comment on this?

I had a similar problem with mine as well. I used Core Temp to distinguish the right temps for each core and then adjusted the temps that was stated on speedfan. They are the temps of each core but they apparently need adjusting

This is a known issue w/ speedfan using the incorrect constant in the following formula: quads get a values of 100 °C and the duals get 85 °C. The core temp is defined as:
Core temp = TJunction - DTS

Example, DTS reads 62. You take 100-62=38 and your core temp is 38 °C.
DTS (Digital Thermal Sensor) can be read directly for each core. See this thread for more on reading your DTS directly without software like TATpaying attention to uncleweb's posts using crystalCPUID to read the DTS directly.

Coretemp also works if it doesn't crash your machine. Art is working on an update to coretemp to fix the random crashing; the initial beta is great on my machine.

Thanks for the info, that makes sense.

Now, in the thread you mentionned in your post, how that guy gets 4 core readings with TAT? I get only CPU1 and CPU2 with TAT.

Also, I have 7°C difference between Core1/2 and Core 3/4, is that normal? I double checked again the CPU block was properly fixed with uniform strenght. I even moved it a bit but it didn't change a thing.

TAT only supports dual cores. And there will be some difference depending on load. Cores 0/1 and 2/3 are separate from one another so they can differ in heat a lot.

how is the bottom cores lower then ambients?

This isnt possible even on watercooling unless your running sub ambient.

Well, according to the post of graysky above, my speedfan readings are 15°C off, that means core temps are 29+15=44, 27+15=42, 20+15=35 and 22+15=37 which are all above ambiant. So all is ok.

I have a Freezone that i did some work on.I got rid of the 92mm fan and installed a 120mm fan with a 151cfm .My temps even after 6 hrs of gaming are 21c&24c with core temp and with AiBooster 8c. At idle when i frist start i get 18c&22c with core temp and 6c with Ai Booster. This is running at stock speed. If I OC my X6800 to 3.7GHz temps only go up 4c on each core. I did do alot of bitching to CoolIt about to much air in the lines, which was causing an air lock in the pump. They had me ship it back and sent me one with no air. After i changed fans, everything was great,! In 2-6 months they will have the newest version of the Freezone out. The temps above were taken July 1st it was 88degrees outside and 92 in my house.
