Strange Temp Spikes

Lately I've been getting strange temp spikes of my Athlon CPU readings on MBM5. Normal non-load temp is 44-45. It will suddenly rise to 50-51. System will get a bit sluggish and temp will not lower. I'll then reboot and temp will lower back down to normal. There is no pattern to when this will occur. Any ideas or suggestions?
