Yeah, and I come to California, and they rob me of all the fun. There's always a good feeling when you can get a 12pk of soda for $2 on sale, but the feeling gets ruined when they stick on that 8.75% tax and CRV.

everyone knows it's impossible! :D

Are you joking or serious? Is it possible to take cans into a state with a high deposit and collect cash?

Nevada doesn't, and I live close enough to the CA border that I can get money from it. Not that I ever do.

I think Massachusetts is 10 cents as well.

Nah, we're the only 10 cent state here in Michigan. I'm honestly not sure why people would hate it so much, it's not like its difficult. You just have a seperate trash can for your bottles & cans, and every once in awhile you take them with you to the grocery store. Keeps them out of landfills, encourages homeless people to clean up after the lazy... It works out well.

Plus, it's like getting cash back, which encourages people to spend, even though they're just getting money back that they've already spent.

Every state should have a deposit program. As has been said it promotes recycling, reduces usable waste, somewhat helps the homeless, and promotes spending.

My problem with deposit fee is that I never get back what I put in when I go redeem my deposit. One place will give me 78c/lb for cans. 24 cans is one pound. I pay 4 cents deposit each. That is 96 cents. 96-78 = 18 cents of difference. Of course no one takes all the time and effort to recycle just a pound, I usually go with 15-20 lbs. That's like losing $3 every trip.

Yeah, when I lived in California, I never bothered to take them back for refund, I just put them in the recycling bins. In Oregon, I just let my kids split the money we get back if they do the work.

True, but not every neighborhood has this collection within states who charge deposit fees.

It's definately possible, but not morally right. We get some cans marked for Michigan deposits in Chicago, and I could just take them to Michigan and say I bought them there, or have someone I know that lives there take them if they only allow residents to redeem cans for deposits.

Yes but have fun doing it in large enough amount to make any real money. My sister goes to Syracuse U and I live in PA so I used to take up all my recyclable cans and beer bottles whenever I went up. I'd usually end up with $5 or so (NY has 5cent deposit), enough for a lunch. It's really not worth the effort but since I'm going up there anyways it's not that big of a deal.
