Strange SSD speed?

Yesterday I bought a new Intel X25-V 40GB SSD drive. I first tested it in a
running system, Windows 7 was installed on a 500 GB HDD. I used HDTach and
the performance was superb.

I then installed Windows 7 on SSD. I disabled Windows Search, Superfetch,
Indexing, System Restore and Windows Pagefile. TRIM function is working
properly. The performence in HDTach is a lot lower in areas where data is
stored.

I don't think it has anything to do with a typical speed degradation, it is
too soon and TRIM is working. After all this is brand new Windows 7 on a
brand new drive. Is this OK?

My system:
Core2Duo E6750
ASUS G31 + ICH7 board
4GB DDR2-800 RAM
WD 500GB SATA2
Intel X25-V (system)

Looks normal. Same thing happened to me, but the dips weren't as bad. I have a G1 Intel. An 80GB drive with 12GBs of data. The 1st 12GBs dipped and peaked, but after a few days it levelled off at 220mb, the rest was a straight line at 240GB. Let Intel's garbage collection take place.

Same in your situation, your probably do have no more than 14GBs of data on it. As time passes it'll straighten up those lines, closer to 220mb, but it will never be as fast as brand new or newly secure erased. The real performance sequential figure with real-life data is 220mb.

Just use your SSD. Re-enable Windows Search, Superfetch, Indexing and Windows Pagefile. Windows Search and Indexing are useful if you like that search bar when you hit the windows logo. If you have plenty of RAM Superfetch will make use of it. You didn't buy 12GB to waste it being idle right? :)

I'll check on these speeds once a week. This is my first SSD and I was expecting the performance curve to stay at max like on HDD.
