Strange sound coming from an Abit KT7A

I have a Abit KT7A running a Duron 700MHz. Everything seems to work fine, but every so often (may be 2 or 3 times an evening) the little speaker built into the computer makes a strange sound. It is like a whistle that starts high and then falls in frequency, all in the space of less than a second. The sort of sound some little bird would make! It doesn't appear to be associated with any particular program (I don't do games), or key stroke. Moreover, it doesn't seem to cause any problems. I'm just curious.😕

what sound card ( yes i heard you say its coming through the system speaker not your multimedia)

but that sounds like one symptom of the via 686b bug (which your motherboard has that chip)
it usually shows up in systems with a soundblaster live sound card)
