Strange SB Live problem

I've been having a problem with intermittent hissing and crackling noises from the right channel on a SB live I had for a year or so. It's only on the line in sound output and has nothing to do with the source as the sounds continue even when the line input is disconnected. It seems to be generated internally as a recording of the line input will have the same noise. Windows and game sound is ok. The problem sometimes goes away for a few days but seems to return when I need to record from the line input.
I've changed the drivers and moved the card without any luck. My current motherboard is an I815 Abit SA6R but it did it on a SE6 also. I'd think the card is bad but both channels are fine when booting to BeOS and listening to the line input. Creative FAQ's list a similar problem but it's for Via chipset MB's
Any insight on this problem would be greatly appreciated, - M.

This might be a long shot, but have you checked your wav properties in the task bar? Try muting various items to see if it'll work. I had a problem with noise when recording to MD, solved it by muting everything but the master and wav volume control.

Whenever you enable Line-In or CD-In(Analog) you will receive "noise" from interference. Try muting both CD-In and Line In, and the sounds should go away.
