Strange question..

If you were in a completely sealed dark room that was completely lined with mirrors, and you turned on a flashlight for a second, how long would the
light last?

ponder that..

that is all

I think someone asked this on the straight dope, and if I remember correctly, a mirror does not give back as much light as is shone into it, so it wouldn't bounce around forever.

not for appreciably longer than a second.

Even ordinary mirrors reflect a majority of the source light, but considering the speed at which light travels it will take a very small amount of time for the mirrors to completely absorb the light.

it would last a second.. mirrors can't amplify light or anything.. you will never get 100% of the light going in to come back out.. so each reflection of light will degrade.. and since it moves so fast, light will be gone as soon as you turn off your flashlight

So if you were in a completely sealed dark room that was completely lined with mirrors, and you turned on a vibrator for a second, how long would the
vibrations last?

ponder that...
