Strange PS/2 mouse port trouble on my new ASUS

Just built my new system on my ASUS P4T-E (check my updated rig). The problem is that my Microsoft basic mouse bought 2 yrs ago, refuses to work when plugged in the PS/2 port. It was working fine on my old configuration and on my notebook (both cases plugged in the PS/2) but now it doesn't exist in the device manager under WinXP and not found generally by the system. When I use the supplied serial adapter and plug it in one serial port everything works fine. Anyone can explain that plz or ever had such weird problem?
My greatest worry is wheather could this be a motherboard's defective PS/2 port? Cuz if it is a mouse problem I won't run to buy another ......

PS: The mobo is wearing the latest ASUS bios version-just checked from their site.....

Check to see that your PS2 ports are enabled in the BIOS, and that your mouse is fully plugged in. If not, you may have a defective port.

I totally respect u and your opinion long time now, but couldn't this be a mouse incompatibility or sth? I mean, the whole upgrade in terms of hardware and installation of WinXP was done at my retailer and he didn't report anything to me about it. How the hell did he make the OS installation? Probably by 99% with a PS/2 mouse as the rest of the world....that wasn't "crazy" like mine! And I don't think he 'd prefer to hide such an obvious problem if he faced it too....
Sorry to bother u all but I am just looking for a reasonable explanation and some hope that I want be the....luckiest man on earth to buy a PS/2 defective P4T-E... 🙁

Hhmm...now that you have given more information, I see what you mean.

I doubt that it is an incompatibility, because I have seen systems based on the P4T-E that don't have problems with a standard PS2 mouse.

Do you have another mouse to try with?

No it's gonna be my last hope....If it works I 'll keep mine no prob I am just stuck on the possibility of having a defective board ........It's tragic... 🙁
And I ve heard many occasions from a technician friend of mine about weird mice and system combinations in terms of functionality....

The MS basic mouse has no problems with XP and it is XP that would find and control it. Either the mouse is dead or the PS/2 port is either not activated in the BIOS (easy to fix) or defective. If defective, return it. Have you tried calling the technician/retailer that did the upgrade and asking him how he did it and/or did he use a mouse?? That would seem to be an easy and logical road to travel.

I just came from the store where the upgrade was done....I spoke to the technician himself and he excluded every single possibility of the mobo being defective since he installed WinXP after the hardware setup, by simply plugging a normal PS/2 mouse in the port.
I guess that's the end of the story then though I might try some more..... mice in the PS/2 port ,if they come my way, till 1 of them works and the 1% posibility is cleared away....
Thanx to all for sharing my problem-any other experience regarding it would of course be again appreciated....!
