Strange problems in Win XP

I have recently got a problem that I didnt have before. What happens is that when I launch my Firefox browser, or many other applications such as Trillian, or microsoft word, NOTHING HAPPENS. Naturally I get frustrated and doubleclick again to start that program... and again, NOTHING. So then I go and do somth else and like 3-7 mins later BOOM!! everything that I tried to launch earlier comes up all at once!!! This is so annoying I cant do anything to fix it.
I scanned for viruses - nothing. Then I scanned for spyware, found a lot, killed it all. The problem is still there however. This never happened before everythikng would launch in a blink of an eye. I have a fairly high end PC with 1gig of RAM, fast processor and a speedy HD. Any idea what might be causing my problem?

Also, I have another issue. When I boot up my PC and get into windows, I cant use anything for about 3-4 minutes, I can click all I want - the system is completely non responsive. After 3-4 mins pass, my screen blinks(or somth like that) once very fast, almost unnoticible, and VOILA ! I can use everything and launch anything. What causes this "delay"?? Any way to fix this??

Still a spyware issue, most likely. The windows is unresponsive issue probably occurs because a lot of junk is launching and/or contacting home via your inet connection. Same with the delay in launching firefox.

At the top of the Software forum is a guide to spyware removal (in the Security thread). Check it out.

I had the same problem, run a virus scan, and an adware scan.

also try control panel> administrative tools> services

from there, disable indexing service.

Have a look at the stuff that starts up when you log into your account. It could be the cause of this delay. Check the system services too.

Starange. When I turn on my PC, there is no internet connection, so nothing could be sending over internet. As for startap, I have most of it disabled through "msconfig"
Also.. Guys... No offence, but I'm not a complete moran. I have scanned my computer with the best spyware removal programs there is. I have the best antivirus software one can get.
I dont have a problem with admitting my ignorance however, and I shall follow your advice and check out that spyware removal guide.
And about disabling services, good idea. I haven't tried that yet.

Ok guys .. I have listened to you and visited the spyware sticky, downloaded and ran the free antivirus and spyware removal programs. No viruses.. Found a bit of spyware.. Removed. Still, the problem is there. My indexing service is disabled already.
Any other thjought on what might be causing this???
