Strange problem

Just a few days ago, I started having these strange computer lock up issues. However, it's not a complete freeze. It's just that everything stops responding but I can still move my mouse and the only thing I can do is Alt-Tab and cycle through the processes I have open. I can't open up the task manager and kill processes or anything like that. It forces me to hard reset every time this happens. What could be causing this?

A hot processor could cause strange behaviour (are you overclocking?). I have also experienced strange behaviour when I had a problem with the power supply (too weak).

I suppose some memory problems could also cause such problems, but I think in most cases they will cause a complete lock up or BSODs.

Don't know if this helps at all.

No overclocking, my processor temps are fine and there is no fluctuations in power or anything like that. I updated the drivers for my video and sound which I hope fixes this issue. It is never a complete lockup, I can always move my mouse.

Updated drivers and stuff and it still does it. It's pretty sporadic. I am usually watching a video or on WoW when this happens and notice a huge FPS drop then it locks ups, but I am still able to move my mouse.

Hey Tiger, I'm not saying I can help ya, but you've given just about enough facts to analize a turd.
If you do come back, your Manfg and OS would at least be a place to get started. :)

Nevermind, I have found the problem and it has nothing to do with my hardware. This is 100% Blizzard's fault for upgrading the game sound engine and causing many many problems with various sound chipsets. Mine just happens to be one of them.
