OK: for some reason, when i try to play a game such as half life, battlefield 2 or quake 3 online, i almost immediately laggout and spike to about 999 ping. now, when im just sitting in windows, there are no problems, i never lag out, etc. the second i open the game and enter a server, ventrilo lags out, the games spike. when i went back to windows, the little icon appeared and said that one of my network connections was unplugged... but i know the hardware (ethernet card and port on my nf4 board) are fine and updated driver wise....

any idea as to why my internet would act in this manner? thanks in advance.

sorry, i dont know much when it comes to networking... im pretty sure my router and cable modem should be fine though... what is a tcp/ip stack?

if windows is telling you disconnected, it's not the TCP/IP stack, it's lower down in the OSI.

Drivers (layer2ish) and cables/pins (Layer 1) are where you need to start to identify this problem.
