Strange problem with Half-Life

When I start playing a game of TFC, after being in the game for about 30 seconds, the game cuts to the Console. If I hit the tilde to try to get the game back...it cuts back to the menu, and instead of "Resume Game" it's "Join Game" ...I haven't been able to play a game for longer than 30 seconds, and it's really starting to piss me off.

Anyone have any ideas?

looks like you're getting some kind of overflow error. what kind of videocard are you using?
either that or you're getting kicked for some reason (cheat-detection program maybe)

I'm using an 32 Meg ATI video board on a laptop (don't remember the name of the chipset), but I've never had this problem before. I'm not running any cheats...and wouldn't there by a "you've been kicked for cheating" message anyway? How do you fix an overflow problem?

actually it wouldn't tell you you've been kicked for cheating. It seems some cheat-detection servers have a thing against ATI drivers and seem to think its part of an OGC cheat. Goto a non-protected room and see what happens. You can also try setting up a LAN with bots to see if thats the problem. if the LAN runs fine and it doesn't kick you out, then its the cheat detection servers.

As for the overflow problem, i'm still trying to fix mine myself :D

Is there anyway to tell if a server doesn't have cheat detection so I can test that out?

Okay...I did try creating a game of my own, and I didn't get kicked out, so it must be the cheat thing.

Any solutions aside from playing on the right servers?

This may be a bit off, but with Counter Strike anti cheat programs, so programmers have admitted theres a problem with the anti cheat detection and have issued a patch. i THINK Paladin anti cheat has it on their site, however its for CS so I dont know if it would work for TFC. Best guess? Mmmm, I say 50 / 50 since both are a HL mod in a way. Also, check here, then on the left go to CS files, in that section they have the ATI driver fix, but I didnt see it listed under the TFC files. But hey, If it doesnt work right now, might as well try it.

Hey Matt, are you running HL under OpenGl or DirectX? I remember having the same exact problem that went away after I downloaded the HL patch for ATi videocards. HL also happens to run much better under OpenGl.

I run OpenGL and I dled the patch...no juice...still cuts to the console after 30-60 seconds.

I'll actually switch to Direct3d and see what I find.
