Strange Problem, windows wont boot without Vista Dvd in Drive

Hey guys, I recently formatted my computer today and upgraded to Service Pack 2 for windows vista 32 bit. However, a strange probleam started to occur. Everytime I reboot or shut down my computer, it will not boot to the OS without the vista disk in the dvdr drive. I will get a message saying BootMngr not found. However, if the disk is in the drive, then it boots normally. Anyone know a solution to this problem? Thanks in advance guys.

I did, my first boot device is my harddisk. Everytime I change it to boot from my HD first, I get the cannot find Bootmgr error message. If I change it back to boot from the CD drive and leave the disk it, my OS boots normally

Wityh Vista, try a Repair by booting to the DVD - not your HDD.

I will try that thanks. Do you think its because my dvd/cd drive is sata and maybe windows thinks its a bootable HD?

Great! That is exactly what I was suggesting. Been there and done that! 🙂

What caused it? Hard to say. I suspect that it can happen during a clean install if one leaves the DVD in the drive once all the data is copied. A SATA optical should make no difference.

Yeah, I do recall leaving the dvd in the drive after I installed Vista....After this experience, I wont ever do it again 😀
