Strange problem when capturing video through firewire

Im working on a computer with the following specs

MSI K8N Neo4 939
A64 3200+ Venice
2x512mb DDR400 Corsair
PCI-E XFX 6600 256mb
XP MCE

The problem is that whenever I capture video through the firewire port from a camera, after 5-8 minutes the screen entire screen goes blank. The computer is still on, but i have to reset the PC to get it workin again.

I have tried three different firewire PCI cards, ive formatted windows, ive tried capturing from different cameras, etc...

It almost seems like an overheating problem... CPU temp is fine but maybe the chipset overheating?

It doesnt really make sense.

When the screen goes blank try hitting the Esc key to see if you can get out of the blank screen. Also try the following:

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you are using Adobe Prem. If not, then I doubt this will be of any use.

PROJECT -> PROJECT SETTINGS -> GENERAL -> PLAYBACK SETTINGS.
Uncheck PLAYBACK ON DESKTOP while exporting to tape.

what program are you referring to?

Ive tried sony vegas 6 and windows movie maker to capture...

I also tried capturing just now with some old PCI video card and everything worked fine...

So perhaps the problem is with te 6600 or with nvidia drivers, although the 6600 loops 3dmark fine with no problems....

doing further testing...

Oh i see. Yeah its not my computer, its a customer's computer. hes a retired fellow who is very new to video stuff so he is using these programs.
