Strange Problem - Using WRT54G as Wireless Repeater

I flashed my Linskys WRT54G (v.3) with DD-WRT firmware (v.24) so that I could use the router as a wireless repeater for a signal whose origin is some distance away from the router.

It's working, but there's something strange about the signal. My download speed is something like 300 kbps, while my upload speed is 400 kbps. Why am I able to upload faster than I can download? Is there a DD-WRT setting that I should tweak?

This is just a guess, but if the source (remote wireless router) has a weak signal you might be dropping a lot of packets that are being sent from that router whereas if the Linksys has a stronger transmitter it is able to send packets "up" to the other router with a much lower loss rate.

To put it another way, assuming that the signal from the other router is bad enough that you are losing 50% of the packets (just picking a number that's easy to understand), it might be sending data to the Linksys router at a rate of 600 kbps but since half of that data is lost and has to be retransmitted you're only getting an effective throughput of 300 kbps.
