I have a computer with a e4300 on a light overclock to 2.4ghz. Natrually i will stress test it. I try memtest... it passes. I try 2 instances superpi 32million... it passses. Then i try orthos.... uh oh, it crashes in around 1 hr! i tried it around 5 times, and it always does that, crashes in around 1hr. Its not a heat problem i think, never over 65, if that.

It worried me greatly until i decide to ditch orthos and try 2 instances of prime95 instead. and lo and behold, it runs perfectly overnight. Yet orthos crashes. I would think its perfectly fine since eveyrhting else passed, but this is a real strange problem. any ideas?

edit: another strange problem, core temp and right clicking "my computer" reports a diffrent frequency than cpuz and bios does... wtf??! and then intel's TAT reports the max freq as the one core temp and right clickngi my computer reports, the the actual freq for each core as the bios and cpuz.....

edit 2: i tried prime95 again and it crashed in 10 min! what the hell is wrong with this computer?????

The computer probably isn't stable. Does it crash in games or other intensive tasks? What are all your voltages at? Set them higher and test again.

2.4ghz is nothing man.

65c is what? Your core 1 or core 2 temp? What application are using to monitor temps?

65 under load at most for core 1 and core 0 temps... i use both TAT and coretemp. also, idle is around 45

It doesnt crash or error at all unless its being stress tested... thats why im kinda confused right now. ill try a higher volt. currently its on "auto" which according to cpuz is 1.296V

Your temps are a bit on the high side for me... Orthos crashing means your overclock isn't quite right... Perhaps looks at improving case air flow or room temps if you are stock on the stock fan...

core temp will report your speed as default mult x fsb

so if you're using a 4300 then your default mult will be 9 and will always report speed as 9 x whatever fsb you set.

use cpu-z for speed.

also, use another program for voltage... once you get above 1.35 volts, it doesn't report it correctly
