Strange P3 cpu problem...? Is it worn out...?

Was putting together an old BH6 setup for my wife`s niece and was using a P3 450 slot 1 cpu that had been with the board when I got it (had even install WinXPpro with the board/cpu combo)... Anyhow I had swapped a little 10 gig drive that I had setup WinME on that was in a K6-2 system (just a basic install) and it went ok with the swap... But shortly there after it started doing crazy stuff like just stopping while booting or even radom lockups and restarts here and there...? So figure it was the OS getting screwed up from the swap from an ALI to a BX chipset...? Well I tried different ram first and even went in under safe mode and removed all the extra listing in the device mgr and nothing worked...? Just before I did a OS re-install I had another P3 450 slot one from another old system I was given... So I swapped it out and poof...! All the problems went away...? Rock solid stable... I even tried the old cpu again and here come the problems again...? Put the other cpu in and no more problems...?

So what gives is the other cpu just worn out...? DOH...! Neither cpu has been OC`d they were from company PC`s Flakey stuff...

So you left the original ME installation on the HDD when you put it into the BH6 and P3 setup? It had problems, but changing the cpu to another of the exact same type seemingly solved them?

Either the problems are still there and havent started up yet or yea the first CPU is borked.

Try reinstalling the OS with the good cpu and then use the cpu with problems, just to see if it works then. Those slot 1's were pretty hardy, would take static or a hammer to break them good.

Well I must have been thinking like you and did a complete re-install of the OS and it went smooth as silk and no problems at all...

BUT...! Put that other darn P3 450 cpu back in and instantly problems with booting and just about everything else... Switched them back out and no problems...

Looks like its the Intel that could`nt go any farther... oh well guess I`ll flush it...?
