Strange mouse problem

Im running win2k and im using a microsoft intellieye explorer mouse
it sporatically and sometimes very frequently will STOP working. the lights go out and the eject usb devices icon shows up in the system tray. i unplug it and put it back in.. it then flashes a bit and comes back to normal for some indeterminate amount of time.. very peculiar... and VERY ANNOYING.. anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this?

do you have the newest drivers for it? and the usb on that mouse screws up alot, why do you use the ps/2 adapter? thats what I had to do

ive noticed that the connector for the usb microsoft mice is very loose. You just have to touch it with a feather and it will lose connection. Make sure that puppy is firmly in its place.
