Strange Monitor problem (Samsung 955DF)

This is a little tough to explain, but I will try.

You know the black gap around the outside of your screen? (You can change it by changing the width and height of the screen) Well, when I open a folder (or IE Window) in Windows XP, the gap gets larger and the main screen gets smaller. Then when I close the window, the gap lessens and the screen grows back. This is instant and it does it by about 1-2mm. I know it sounds strange, but it bugs me. It looks kinda like it zooms out, then back it.

Anyone know what I am talking about?

Yes it happens on mine too. Minimizing/maximizing and changing screens causes the shift too. I just got used to it.

Also, when I first start Windows, the entire screen is shifted to the right about 2mm. Eventually, it will float back over to the left in a few minutes.

My 955DF is also slightly reddish on the left and distorted too (squished on the left). I would have exchanged it if it weren't for Gateway's crappy customer service.

Mine doesn't change when maxing windows, but when it boots up it does shift a bit. I guess I gotten used to it, you get what you payed for.

This is almost always due to poor power supply regulation inside the monitor. The power supply does not have the power to keep the image bright and stable when using bright colored backgrounds thus the screen shrinks slightly.

Every monitor I've ever seen has done it slightly. 2mm on each side seems excessive; 1mm total for each axis would seem to be acceptable. My own 955DF's is essentially imperceptible, but my CTX VL950S is noticeable pretty easily if I'm looking for it. It seemed to be slightly worse on my GF2 GTS with the CTX than it is on the current GF4.

You might try adjusting the brightness and contrast controls, and possibly reducing the refresh rate (if you've got it at 100Hz or something high like that). I don't know that either of those will make any difference, but it's worth trying.
