was playing a game, it crashed, when I rebooted it told me my boot.ini was corupted, I tried to boot with my XP cd to go into the recovery console to fix it. The screen didn't come on when I rebooted a 2nd time (when xp says setup is starting) I tried a different video card, and a different monitor. The strange thing is, I can hear the pc going threw the POST motions, which I've never had happen when a video card is bad. I don't have a speaker in my case so I can't check for beeps and the MB has no led's that show status. But, when I turn it on, I hear the CD spin up after 10 or so seconds like it's trying to boot from cd. I'm sure it's the MB but maybe there is something else I can try I haven't thought about? basic Gigabyte NF3 MB, nothing overclocked, like I said PC has been running perfectly for awhile, this is the first issue I've had.

Can you get to a command line (a windows 98 boot disk is what I've used
in the past)? If you can, maybe you can manually edit the boot.ini file yourself
and fix it. This is what I have in there if you need the info:

[boot loader]
timeout=15
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

it was Marc Ecko Getting Up, I don't believe it has Starforce protection, but I could be wrong. To the next person, I can't even get the screen to come on. I hear my dvd drive spin up like it's trying to boot from my win xp disc and it never comes on. I'm going to take the entire thing apart and make sure everything is connected/seated properly.
If I can actually get the screen to come on, I should be able to hop into the Recovery Console and repair the boot.ini.
