Hey guys, I've reformatted and did a clean reinstallation of windows xp on a Dell SC420 because of this weird loading screen that pops up prior to the actual windows xp loading screen. When I first got the box a couple of years ago it never had this particular loading screen. I don't know what is causing it now and I do not recognize it at all. I've reformatted in the hopes that it would solve my problem, but it did not. This screen takes about 5 minutes to fully load before going onto the windows xp loading screen.

Does anyone know what it is and what I need to do to get rid of it? Thanks in advance!

edited because i fail at linking images.

I've only seen this happen on older 2k boxes. Im not entirely sure but I think its the progress bar for loading the loading image. It should not be taking so long, check the hard drive

That screen is normal, and XP usually gets through the process quick enough that it's never on screen. Why it is taking 5 minutes, I do not know.

The thing is, after this screen finishes loading, the actual XP progress bar/screen pops up and loads. So I don't believe it is the XP loading screen but something else. I'll scan the hdd for issues tonight and report back :/

makoto00, several people have now explained what that screen is. It is a windows XP screen, that shows up when the computer is loading. I have it on my 1.9 ghz machine, but it doesn't show on my 2.4 ghz machine or my 1.6ghz celeron laptop. No idea why it does on some and doesn't on others. It should NOT take 5 minutes to get through that screen - more like 2 seconds.

Boot into safemode and see if it takes equally as long.

Alot of information about what you are seeing. It is a Windows loading screen. Check your event log files and see if anything is causing a problem. It seems to me something is hanging at startup.
