Strange issue with TP-Link Router

Hi,

I have the TP-link wdr3600 N600 router configured to work with a cable modem.
All is working fine in the past 5-6 days but yesterday for a duration of a couple of hours I had a series of strange occurrences.

Suddenly I couldn't open web sites with my browser.
Whatever I tried I got the following error in Chrome.
"Google Chrome's connection attempt to *** was rejected. The website may be down, or your network may not be properly configured."

It seems the internet wasn't affected in general as for example Skype functioned correctly. It is somehow as port 80 or smth like that was affected, not really sure.

I couldn't even access the routers config page 192.168.0.1 (and the router was ON, the LAN was connected as indicated by the router light and that was the correct address, i.e. the default gateway of my connection).
Sporadically I would be able to access the router but after starting to 'surf' I would get the Rejected message in Chrome again.

Any ideas? This all seems very weird.

If Skype works on the same computer, I doubt that it is the Router.

Install a portable version of Firefox and see if it is a browser issue.

I've tried with IE, Chrome and Firefox from 3 different computers. So I would say it is not the browser. It was smth with the router.

I believe he was asking what "smth" is. Why did you mention it? Is it a setting in your router? Where did you see it? Is it an anagram for something that we should know about but aren't making the connection. I don't think anyone here has ever heard the term "smth".

A couple of thoughts: Chrome will use proxy settings from IE and sometimes adware will create a local proxy to filter traffic and cause all kinds of havoc. Go to Internet Options in control panel (might have to switch to large/small icons) and make sure the proxy option is unchecked:

Second thought, DNS issues. Go to your adapter settings and change the primary DNS server to 208.67.220.220 or 8.8.4.4. OpenDNS and Google DNS have been far more reliable IME than ISP DNS servers.
