Strange issue with Cyber Snipa mouse

My friend got the Cyber Snipa Stinger mouse a few days ago and enthusiastically declared it the best mouse he'd ever used, way nicer than his old Razer Lachesis.

Ironically, the next day it refused to work properly. Every few seconds the mouse would stop responding to input and freeze for a second or two before resuming.

His computer is made of a Q6600/EVGA 680i LT/8800GTS SLI/8gb memory, running XP64. We tried the mouse on someone else's computer with XP32 and it worked with no problem. We tried it on my laptop with XP32 and there was no problem. Tried on a Mac, no problem. Tried it on my computer (Gigabyte G33M mobo / XP64) and it immediately had the same problem right away.

I installed the modified usbport.sys that forces the USB polling rate to 1khz on my computer and this actually fixed the problem there. However, when I tried it on his computer, there was no effect.

We decided to try installing Vista 64 and seeing if it made any difference. It did not. The problem was immediately apparent in the installer and continued after installation.

The last test we did was seeing if the problem was still present on his computer under linux. We booted from an ubuntu x64 livecd, and the mouse worked fine.

At this point we are thoroughly confused and don't know what to try next. Anyone have an idea?

As a general rule, I avoid products that use leetspeak as a part of their name.
